Is Blogging A Waste Of Time?

Updated: Sep 25, 2020

Blogging can require a lot of time and effort, so it’s understandable that you would want to make sure it’s worth your time before you commit to it. The short answer is, blogging is worth it, and is not a waste of time. However, as Blog Tyrant says, it’s only worth it if you go about it in the right way. So what exactly is the right way to go about it?🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND SEO

The best way to make a blog worth your time is to get it noticed by Google, as this gives your business more credibility because it means you rank higher in search engines and are therefore more visible to the public. According to Kikolani, one way of doing this is to study SEO. Good SEO gets you noticed by Google, so it’s important to have a good understanding of it if you want to make a success out of your blog. If you’re considering starting a blog, it might be worth taking an SEO course (there’s loads online for free!), or alternatively hiring an SEO expert to help you out. It’ll be worth it once you’ve got the hang of it!

CREATE CONTENT THAT PEOPLE WILL ACTUALLY WANT TO READ

In Paul Scrivens’ post for Obstacle, he says that the formula for running a successful blog is as simple as writing high quality content that people will want to read, and he’s actually right. If you’re producing content that isn’t going to be of interest to your audience, there’s absolutely no point in writing it. Why? Because nobody will want to read it. Therefore, it’s fundamental that you research what your audience is interested in reading about, and use that information to shape the content you are producing.💻💻

WHEN IT COMES TO BLOGGING, YOU SHOULD BE PUTTING QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

Blogging With Funnels says that when he realised that it was better to produce less high quality content than more average content, he saw a huge growth in the success of his blog. Basically, the lesson here is that nobody wants to read mediocre, or worse, just plain bad blog posts, no matter how frequently they’re posted. It’s far more important to produce smaller amounts of posts whilst ensuring that they are of the highest quality possible, as it’s good quality content that draws people back to your blog!

TRY AND USE YOUR BLOG TO ANSWER COMMON CLIENT QUESTIONS

Often, we get asked the same questions over and over again by clients. Barefoot Accounting suggest that a blog is an effective way of dealing with this problem. By using your blog to answer frequently asked questions, you save a lot of time on sending out the same response to clients time and time again - now you can just point them in the direction of your blog, where their questions have already been answered in an efficient manner. This also increases engagement with your business blog, and more traffic is great for your SEO ranking.❓❓

NEVER FORGET TO PROMOTE YOUR POSTS

It’s all very well and good you producing fantastic content that’s SEO-friendly, but if you don’t promote your posts, there’s basically no point in writing the content. Promotion is an essential step to having a successful blog - if you’re not promoting your content, how are people going to know you have a new post? Make sure that you know how to effectively promote your posts to the correct audience, as this is key to driving traffic to your blog.
