Kirsteen Anne Wark is a Scottish journalist and television presenter. Born in Dumfries, Scotland, on 3rd February 1949, Wark grew up with her father who was a solicitor, and her mother who was a teacher. Wark went on to graduate from the University of Edinburgh.
She initially joined the BBC as a graduate researcher and is well-known for her work in BBC Two’s program Newsnight. From 1982, Wark has worked for BBC Scotland on countless shows like Reporting Scotland, Agenda, Current Account, Seven Days, Left, Right and Centre, Scottish Questions, and Breakfast Time.
She also covered the Lockerbie Disaster in 1988; in which a Pan Am Flight 103, a Boeing 747 aircraft exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing a total of 270 people. She made her way into the limelight when she interviewed Prime Minister at the time, Margaret Thatcher, due to her distinctive line of questioning during the interview.
Later in 1999, she came up with her own program, The Kirsty Wark Show. She has worked as a host for several BBC programs like The Book Quiz, A Question of Genius and A Question of Taste. Apart from the BBC, she has also hosted the 10th annual Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards. She was the finalist of Celebrity MasterChef and also appeared in The Great British Bake Off.
Warks has had a splendid career, winning several awards including Journalist of the Year by BAFTA Scotland in 1993 and Best Television Presenter in 1997. More recently in 2017, she was selected as a Fellow at The Royal Society of Edinburgh. She is also the author of two novels, The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle and The House By The Loch.
Wark met her spouse, Alan Clements, at the BBC show Left, Right and Centre, and together they have two children. The couple also founded their own independent TV production company, Wark-Clements and Co.
