8 Podcasts To Tune In To If You Are A Health Professional



The podcast, a type of audio-based recording and broadcast, is not a new form of media. However, there has been a definite spike in popularity in recent times. Making its way into mainstream channels, podcasts are growing steadily in trend and awareness.

According to Oberlo, as of 2020, there are over 850,000 active podcasts still running – and over a whopping 30 million podcast episodes in existence!


Why is this relevant for health professionals, you might ask?

🎧 Podcasts are easy to listen to and learn from! Instead of spending time scrolling through lengths of text, put your headphones in and listen, while multi-tasking.


🎧For health professionals who may be pressed for time – you can tune in on your commute to work, while you’re doing a workout, or when you’ve come home from a long day and want to destress.


Whether you are a professional in the field or not, you are guaranteed to find value in any of these podcasts - so stay tuned!



1 - 2 Docs Talk

2 Docs Talk is hosted by Amy Rogers, MD, and Kendall Britt, MD. This series covers a wide variety of topics in the medical and health realm. The episodes are approximately 15 minutes each, referred to in the podcasts as an “appointment”.


Short but sweet, this would be a great one to pop on while you’re on a walk, or during your lunch break. The series discusses topical healthcare subjects around both healthcare policy and evidence-based medicine such as vaccines, medical marijuana and drug pricing. 💉


With Kendall as a practising hospitalist and Amy as a medical writer, the pair explore these current medical topics with the intention of better-informing others so that they can be more equipped to deal with them if they need to.

Two of their most well-liked episodes are Episode 3: Affordable Care Act and Episode 122: Does everyone get healthcare in the U.S. when they really need it?


2 - Mind Pump: Raw Fitness Truth

Centred around fitness and wellness, this podcast is founded and hosted by four athletes – Sal Di Stefano, Adam Schafer, Justin Andrews, and Doug Egge.


💪🏼 The podcast began after the athletes were tired of the fitness industry’s excessive marketing focus on body insecurities and faux science.

💪🏼 The group have over 40 years of fitness experience combined and are on a mission to educate listeners on the ins and outs of physical fitness.


Mind Pump: Raw Fitness Truth cuts through the clutter and delivers science-backed information, current studies and solutions to improving performance while prioritizing health at the same time.


3 - EMcrit

Examining all things related to critical care and resuscitation, EMcrit was created by Scott D. Weingart, MD and is devoted to Maximally Aggressive Curative Care and Palliative Care.


This bi-weekly series discusses up-to-date evidence-based information taken from a range of fields – and translates this jargon into relevance for areas like Emergency Department (ED) or the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).


Each episode is approximately 20 minutes long. The episodes are concise, focused and engaging to listen to. Topics that have previously explored are treating asthma, dealing with cardiogenic shock and attempting midline incisions.

4 - Everyday Emergency

Everyday Emergency is a podcast run by non-profit organisation Doctors Without Borders, also known as Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF). This series brings you right to the frontlines of humanitarian emergencies, where you will hear excerpts from medical experts that work tirelessly across the world, in regions such as Yemen, Greece and Bangladesh.


Bringing to light the enormous challenges that are being faced by many – such as the refugee crisis and doctors working in war-torn countries. You won’t want to miss out on this one, it’s truly an inspiring one.

5 - TEDTalks Health Podcast

Following the TED motto of Ideas Worth Spreading, TEDTalks Health Podcast is a popular series that spotlights well-recognised industry experts who examine ongoing medical advancements, discoveries and re-examines older topics in a new light.


💊 Each episode is more exhilarating than the last, as doctors and researchers deep dive into topics, with episodes including How we’re using dogs to sniff out malaria and What investigating neural pathways can reveal about mental health.
